VAC Physiotherapy in Gatineau (Plateau)
Chartier Physiotherapy and Multidisciplinary Clinic is proud to serve Canadian Veterans in the Outaouais region. We provide physiotherapy services for eligible Veterans covered by Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), with care focused on pain management, mobility, function, and long-term independence.
Veterans often live with the physical legacy of years of service, which can include complex musculoskeletal injuries, chronic pain, post-surgical recovery, and the effects of aging on previous injuries. Our approach starts by listening, so we understand your service history, your current limitations, and the activities that matter most to you.
We then design a treatment plan around your goals, whether that is returning to a favourite activity, reducing daily pain, improving balance and confidence on your feet, or maintaining independence in your home. Direct billing through Medavie Blue Cross is available when your treatment is authorized, so you can focus on your recovery without the administrative burden.

Our Approach to Veteran Care
Rehabilitation for Veterans is rarely a short-term fix. We focus on building sustainable strength, mobility, and resilience so you can stay active and independent well beyond the end of your treatment plan.
Thorough Assessment with Functional Goals
Your first visit is a detailed assessment that looks at your pain, movement quality, strength, balance, and the activities you want to return to or maintain. We set measurable, functional goals together so you can see your progress clearly.
Personalized Plan of Care
Your treatment plan is built around your specific injuries, health history, and goals. It combines hands-on techniques with active rehabilitation and education, and we adjust it as you progress.
Active Rehabilitation
Exercise is central to long-term results. We use progressive, evidence-based physiotherapy programs that build strength, mobility, and confidence in movement. Every exercise is chosen with your goals in mind, whether that is walking further, lifting grandchildren, returning to a sport, or simply navigating stairs without pain.
Education and Self-Management
Understanding your body is part of long-term recovery. We teach you strategies to manage flare-ups, reduce aggravating factors, and maintain your progress between sessions and after your treatment plan ends.
Return to Meaningful Activities
Rehabilitation works best when it is tied to what you care about. We help you rebuild the specific skills and capacities you need for the activities that bring you meaning, whether that is time with family, hobbies, travel, or volunteer work.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible for VAC-funded physiotherapy?
Eligibility is determined by Veterans Affairs Canada based on your service history, health conditions, and treatment authorization. Veterans with an accepted VAC file and authorization for physiotherapy treatment are typically eligible. If you are unsure, contact your VAC case manager, or call us at 819-525-7500 and we will help you navigate the next steps.
Do I need a referral to book an appointment?
Your VAC treatment authorization serves as your approval to receive care. In some cases, a referral from your treating physician is also required. We recommend having both on hand when you book your first visit.
How is VAC physiotherapy billed?
When direct billing is available, we bill Medavie Blue Cross directly for authorized services. You will have no out-of-pocket costs for covered treatment within your authorization. If something falls outside your authorization, we will discuss it with you before proceeding.
Can I continue physiotherapy if I have been injured for many years?
Absolutely. Many Veterans benefit from physiotherapy decades after their original injury. Our focus is on your current function, pain, and goals, not on the age of the injury. We routinely help Veterans improve mobility and quality of life after years or decades of living with pain.
Do you treat service-related chronic pain?
Yes. Chronic pain is one of the most common reasons Veterans come to physiotherapy. Our approach combines hands-on care, active rehabilitation, and self-management education to help reduce pain and improve what you can do day-to-day.
Do I need to bring anything specific for my first appointment?
Bring your VAC health care card, your VAC client number, any authorization details from VAC, and any relevant medical or imaging reports. Wear comfortable clothing that lets you move freely.
